5) Blankets

Blankets mean different things to different people. For some, a blanket is something that keeps them warm. For others, a blanket is a fashionable accent. Still others, view a blanket as a security item. And then there are those people who think a blanket is just another piece of fabric. I believe that I am in the middle of those first three. I love a nice warm blanket on a chilly winter night. Being snuggled under a soft blanket just makes me feel warm inside and out. I also love a bright blanket thrown on a big chair. There’s just something about a blanket that says “Come. Sit. Relax.” And I do honestly believe that blankets contribute to feelings of security. I absolutely cannot sleep unless I am covered by a blanket. I will also be the first to admit that this is more than likely psychological. Somehow we believe that the murder will not hurt us if only we are under a blanket. Why? Who on earth knows! We just do.

In addition to being warm, fashionable, secure, and fabric…blankets are also, I believe, very personal. For whatever reason, when I go over to a friend’s apartment and curl up on their sofa with one of their blankets, it’s just not near as comforting. Blankets become like our friends over time. Think about it. What do you do with a blanket? You read with it, watch movies with it, drink with it, eat with it, cry on it, sleep with it…(o.O) You get the point. Suffice it to say, you spend a lot of life time with your blanket. A blanket that belongs to someone else, a blanket that has their tears and chocolate stains on it, now to you that is just another piece of fabric.

On the other hand, blankets can be an awesome way of showing how well you know someone. For example, my best friend would not buy me a hot pink blanket with purple fuzzy tassels. At lease she wouldn’t if she wanted to remain my friend. Why? Because she knows me! She knows that that kind of blanket would absolutely not be comforting to me under ANY circumstances. However, because she does know me, she might buy me a blanket with the New York Yankees logo on it. (I am aware that I may lose some followers over that last sentence…) In any case, I’ve made my point. A blanket can be a great gift between really great friends who know each other extremely well.

So thank you for reading this post, now go curl up under your favorite blanket and listen to the latest Mumford album!

Enjoy!

3) Bow ties

In the words of Kate Winslet in The Holiday, “I like corny. I’m looking for corny in my life.” And what could possibly be more corny than a bow tie? Now, for those of you who either wear bow ties yourselves or know someone who does, I want to issue a disclaimer. I mean no offense to bow ties or bow tie wearers. I have my own loveable bow tie wearers in my life and I absolutely love them. I wish to remind you that this is a blog about FAVORITE things and therefore is about things that I LIKE. This being said, you should understand that I do, in fact, like bow ties and those that wear them. I also think that they are incredibly corny which only adds to their lovability.

Now that all that has been said, I would like to get on with this post. I have not always been a supporter of the bow tie. In fact, I used to despise them. I had a professor who would come in wearing a bow tie almost every class period and I would cringe every time. Why the change of heart? I guess you could say…Christmas. There’s just something about boys (old, young, and in between) in their Sunday best with shiny shoes and a bow tie. I think Ebenezer Scrooge himself would give a smile at that sight.

This post is relatively short (partly due to the fact that it is Christmas Eve and now 1:30 am). But mostly due to the fact that I simply wanted to confess to the world my new found appreciation of bow ties. Also, I would like to apologize for any and every negative remark I have ever made regarding bow ties and their wearers. I admit that I had no idea what I was talking about and therefore completely wrong in my remarks. I will leave you with this picture and the following adieus:

I love bow ties.

Merry Christmas.

Good night.

That is all.
